See what our residents, family members and friends have to say about us.

Our 92-year-old mother has resided at the Terraces of Baycrest in Toronto since the summer of 2014.

Both my brother and I live in the USA, which means that although we visit her frequently, we are not in Toronto on a daily basis to tend to our mother’s needs. The staff at the Terraces have lovingly and competently helped fill that gap for us. The entire staff have, from Day 1, made her feel at home, and have consistently given her excellent care and attention. Prior to her moving to the Terraces, our mother lived alone in an apartment, having to deal with so many daily challenges. We are so much more at peace, knowing our mother is at home at the Terraces, and so is she! Thank you so much to all the Terraces staff.

My mother, who moved into the Terraces over a decade ago, has found that the caring and compassionate environment of this residence has helped her maintain a cheerful and positive outlook and sense of good humour as she faces the challenges of aging.

She draws comfort from living in a community that embraces a Jewish lifestyle and culture and looks forward to the liberal Sabbath services held on-site twice a month. Key to her quality of life is the exceptional care provided by the staff, from the attentive kitchen staff who remembers her likes and dislikes to the expert on-site medical staff and nurses who deliver care with great sensitivity and kindness. Knowing that she would be assigned a family physician who would see her in the medical centre at the Terraces was a contributing factor to my mother’s decision to move into this residence. The Lifeline and monitoring system and the ability to consult with a nurse at any time enhances her sense of security. Many of my mother’s special medical needs can be addressed at the clinics in the nearby Baycrest Health Centre; these are conveniently located and give access to professionals with geriatric expertise. The social workers on staff at the Terraces are key contributors to the well-being of residents. They recognize the unique needs of each resident and develop a therapeutic and trusting relationship that allows them to provide insight and guidance at critical times. They listen to concerns with empathy and respect and understand the challenges that community living and aging can present.

The Terraces offers a wide range of fitness, educational and recreational activities. My mother’s favourite activity is her twice-a-week aqua-fit session at the pool in the attached seniors’ community centre. The beloved instructor leads a fun class with enthusiasm and constant encouragement. Others take advantage of the well-equipped gym. The literary research that my mother does as leader of a Reading Club is both challenging and rewarding for her. She also enjoys the stimulating and thought-provoking rabbi-led discussions that expand her understanding of her religious heritage.

It is always a pleasure for me to join my mother for tea in her lovely apartment with a beautiful view over downtown Toronto.

Our family is forever grateful to the Terraces of Baycrest for enhancing our wonderful mother’s final years.

Our Mom, Sylvia Banack, really truly enjoyed her years living at the Terraces. She participated actively in all the activities that were offered e.g choir, singing, music, outings, swimming, discussion group and Synagogue. She enjoyed mealtime and ‘tea time’ with the many friends she met there. Our family felt reassured that medical help was available whenever needed.
